valentia island escape

Our location has an off grid vibe and our mission is to help our guests connect with nature, breath fresh air and enjoy expansive views. Indoor and outdoor activities provided by your hosts Josie & Brendan or do your own thing... nice bar down the road in Chapeltown 'The Ring Lyne' and great seafood at The Fisherman's in Portmagee.

wild atlantic way

Valentia Island is about half way down/up the Wild Atlantic Way and has the most westerly harbour in Europe. It is blessed with the 'fresh air' (and rain ;) swept up from the Caribbean by the north Atlantic oscillation. A very temperate (= mild) climate has created a magical 'micro climate' which is host to tropical gardens at Glanleam House on the island and Chelsea Flower Show 'Gold Medal' winning nearby Kells Bay. It's never that cold but do bring practical outdoor clothes including fleece etc and rain/top layers - be comfortable when enjoying the outdoors ;)

Valentia Island

Valentia Island is situated on the Wild Atlantic Way and boasts the most westerly harbour in Europe, features on shipping forecasts and is a staging post for boat trips to visit the UNESCO Skellig Rocks.

It is accessible by ferry from Reenard Point outside Cahirciveen during the summer OR by land bridge from picturesque Portmagee year round. Cromwell Point lighthouse features in Failte Ireland 'Irish Lighthouses'. The Transatlantic Cable Station is another visitor attraction.
